Buckden
Lakes
Welcome to Buckden Pits AJS Fisheries first gravel pit complex. The fishery
is situated in the Ouse Valley between Buckden and Offord Cluny, just
five minutes from the A1 and 10 minutes from the A14 access to the complex
is very convenient.
The Fishery
The fishery comprises of two gravel pits, a mature lake of 25 acres and
a much younger pit of 35 acres. The back lake is made up of two distinct
areas the main body of the lake of approximately 17 acres which is an
open expanse of water with good weed growth. The far end of the pit is
older and has many islands, bars and plateaus it realy is stunning in
the summer.
The front lake is an awesome piece of open water averaging 8-9’ loads of weed and tonnes of natural food. This really is a man’s water. Not for the faint hearted.
The lakes will be developed to offer carp anglers the opportunity to fish for some stunning English fish in quiet and un-crowded conditions.
Fish Stocks
I took the lease on the waters expecting them to be virgin lakes with
no or very few fish present. Well to my surprise and pleasure it turns
out that both lakes contain fish stocks and some of the fish are very
impressive with good carp (40lb), bream (16lb 10oz), pike (30lb) and tench
(over 10lb)reported.
The back lake definitely contains two forties a stunning common and even prettier mirror.
The back lake was immortalised in a film called in search of the Blue Mirror featuring Lee Jackson and Terry Hearn
some 7 or 8 years ago. However since this film was made other anglers have made the effort to fish the lakes and have turned up some really lovely fish including three decent mirrors, reportedly upper thirties, and a common that has been over forty.Membership
The syndicate is made up of forty members fishing sixty acres of water.
The cost of membership is £500.00 per year. These fish have all come from
the back lake but the front lake contains some good fish too! But how
many is a mystery.
